One key and no backup. A spare is simpler to make while you still have a key that works.
In the door. A worn key and a worn lock can both cause it.
Dead buttons, or you have to stand right beside the car.
Most fobs run on a small coin battery sold at drugstores and hardware stores. Check the old battery for its size. If a fresh battery doesn't fix it, call us.
Most newer car keys carry a small chip in the head, called a transponder. Before the engine will start, the car checks that chip. That's why a key can be cut to fit and still not start the car: its chip has to be programmed to that car.
Makes keys for the brand it sells. The car usually has to go to the dealer, which can mean a tow when every key is lost.
Can often cut and program car keys without a trip to the dealer. Whether that works for your car depends on the year, make and model, so ask us.
A house key is cut metal. Most car keys also have a chip that has to be programmed to the car, and many have a remote built in.
Not always. Some fobs only lock and unlock the doors, and a separate key starts the car.
